There are many Music Festivals, or Eisteddfods, taking
place in the area, but none in Nailsea or surrounds. In
2005 a group of four Nailsea residents decided to start
such an event, to see if there was sufficient support
for this to be run on an annual basis.
The first Festival was held on 16 November 2006 in
Nailsea, mainly at the Methodist Church, but with some
classes also held in Christ Church. There were classes
for piano, strings, voice and woodwind, and these were
well supported by local teachers. The 2007 festival was
even more successful and saw a 40% increase in entries,
and the 2008 Festival had 50% more entries again. In
2008 we hired the Methodist Church, Wesley Building,
United Reformed Church, Christ Church and Church House,
and had five adjudicators plus three accompanists.
For 2009 we again hired five venues, and following the
success of the Speech and Drama classes introduced in
2008, held these on a separate day.
Our fifth Festival in 2010 promises to be really
exciting. Firstly we have relocated to the brand new
Nailsea Community School, so that all the classes can be
held under one roof. Secondly, we are introducing two
new classes, namely a creative writing class for prose
and poetry, and a music composition class. |
